    How Do Hyperhidrosis work?

Sweat is your body’s temperature regulator, a way in which our bodies cool down. Many individuals suffer from excessive sweating, a medical condition known as hyperhidrosis. In severe primary axillary (underarm) hyperhidrosis, sweating significantly exceeds the body’s normal requirements for cooling. It is a fairly common problem that can be limited to the underarms but can also affect the face, back, palms and soles of the feet. Usually an inherited condition, hyperhidrosis can affect those who suffer from it on a social, functional, and emotional level.

There are several products and treatment options available to assist individuals suffering from hyperhidrosis.

BOTOX® treatment is approved by the FDA to treat the symptoms of severe hyperhidrosis when medicines used on the skin (topical) do not work well enough. BOTOX® is injected into the affected areas and works by temporarily blocking the chemical signals from the nerves that stimulate the sweat glands. When the sweat glands don’t receive chemical signals, the severe sweating stops.

  • Post-Treatment Instructions
    After treatment

After receiving treatment with BOTOX® for hyperhidrosis the area(s) treated may appear slightly more irritated on day 2, with a gradual decrease in irritation each day. You can expect local redness and/or swelling which can last approximately 2-5 days in duration. You are instructed to cleanse that area(s) gently, twice daily with antibacterial soap, until the area no longer appears to be inflamed (2-5 days). After cleansing, apply a thin layer of antibiotic cream (i.e. Polysporin) to the treated area.

Avoid the use of antiperspirants or body creams for 48 hours post treatment. Also, refrain from “high sweating” activities such as running, aerobics, weight lifting etc., for 48 hours as well.

If any red or swollen areas appear to be worsening, apply a saltwater compress to the area. You can do so by measuring out 1 tsp of salt and adding this to 8oz of hot water. Soak a clean cloth in this solution, making sure the water is not too hot when applied to the skin. Apply the compress to the affected area for 10 minutes, twice daily, each day until the redness and swelling subsides.

Clients about Ästhetik Rx

  • I went for a consultation at Asthetik Rx. I have always wanted Botox to erase some lines on my forehead but was always very nervous. The place is very clean and modern. The Staff was very knowledgeable and explained the procedure from start to finish, and also answered all my questions and concerns. The results were amazing and the price didn’t break the bank either. Excellent place!
